We have already entered in 2012, a new year of opportunities, hopes, good stronger beliefs, positivity, well-being and a year to achieve your goals and milestones.
All of us must have decided on the new year resolutions. One of the resolutions I have put on my wish-list is to break the prejudices, which I form sometimes about somebody and something which sometimes I haven't even experienced. And, I am sure that all of us do that, be it about a person, somebody's habits or behavior and sometime even about ourselves !
From some past readings and learning, I want to pen down some thoughts which may leave you to ponder on the importance of not having prejudices about anything unless you experience that yourself.
Prejudices that limit yourself (about a new learning, new skill and your work)
This is one of the most important kind of prejudices, which many people form in their mind when it comes to either doing something new or learning something new. Everybody has a fear, accept it or not, of something which is not yet experienced personally. The important thing is to have enough courage to go on in spite of your fears and accomplish the undone.
You need determination, preparation, patience and courage to achieve something which you have fears of but you still want to achieve in your life. Don't wait for your fears and self-limiting prejudices to take over yourself because you can not eliminate the prejudices of your mind but can only recognize them, work on them and sideline them to go ahead on your way to success.
Prejudices about people
This one is also very important when it comes to the way you form opinion, judgement and beliefs about some people around you.
I am not saying that we should not be using our judgement skills and beliefs about people. The important part is that we should not form unfavorable and unreasonable attitude and behavior after recognizing what is lying in your mind about somebody. The judgement you form should be based on your own experience about those people.
Prejudices are very hard to break after they make a permanent residency in your mind. So, be careful about them. It is not wise to form any opinion or judgement about somebody if you haven't personally experienced it. It is not fair on the part of other person too !
But if you continue to form 'not experienced opinions and judgements' about people, don't be surprised if somebody treats you in that same way and makes such unpleasant and unfavorable beliefs about you, which don't even exist. Remember, you get what you give to others.
Henry David Thoreau (An American poet and a philosopher) very well said that "It is never too late to give up our prejudices".
I thought this one as an important part of my wish-list for 2012 and wanted to share with you all. If you want to share one of your resolutions which takes you towards a Stronger YOU, please share it here and comment.
Wish you a very happy and a prosperous new year !
